Homemade Mini Heart Dog Cake Recipe

Yields 10 mini cakes

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/3 cup butter (or 1/4 cup vegetable oil)

  • 1/4 cup all-natural peanut butter

  • 1 cup shredded carrots

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons all-natural honey

  • 1/2 cup low-fat buttermilk

  •

For the frosting:

  • 8 ounces of low-fat cream cheese

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a mini heart cake pan with non-stick cooking spray and set it aside.

  2. Mix the flour and baking soda. Add the peanut butter, vanilla, honey and oil/butter and stir. Add the buttermilk, 1/4 cup at a time. Stir in carrots.

  3. Spoon the mixture into the mini heart cavities, filling each one three-quarters full. Bake for at least 25 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.

  4. While the cakes cook, prepare frosting by beating the cream cheese and vanilla together. Once the cakes have cooled, frost. Drizzle melted peanut butter on top or top with additional shredded carrots.

Meet Connor!

About Connor

Partial sponsorship has been paid by Joan Poutous to help with Connor's adoption fee. Meet Connor--1 of our senior dogs:

Woof!! My name is Connor. As you can see from my photos I am a black lab mix. I was found as a stray in Connellsville and the staff thinks I might be 7-8 years old.

There is so much about me that I want to tell you: First, most people that meet me, really fall in love with me. We have been getting new volunteers at the shelter and after they walk me, they love me. The staff told me that I am one of the most leash trained dogs FFOA has every had the pleasure of working with. I actually walk behind the person walking me. That sure makes me feel proud of myself.

In addition to be a great walker, I love to play with a tennis ball, or enjoy being silly, or just being adorable as always! I LOVE toys and playing fetch!!

So, I have been at the shelter for some time now, probably for a few reasons: I am of course the big black dog. I am older and I prefer to be the lone dog. Don't let me being the older, black, lone dog deter you from meeting me. I would make the perfect family dog, and despite my age, I am a big puppy who has so much love to give!

When you come, you will see me right away. I am in the very large kennel in the parking lot. While I spend my days here in the large outside kennel area, I see dogs going home, so many of them, with their new families. They all look so happy. I wait, and wait and wait. When is it going to be my turn to go home with my forever family. I know you are out there and you are looking for me--I'm here waiting for you. Please come soon and adopt me.

If you want to learn more about me, please call the shelter at 724.245.7815 or stop out to meet me. We are open: S-M-T-W-F 1:00-5:00 and Sat-12:00-5:00. Come soon. I want a family of my own.
Kisses, Connor

Adoption fee $150

Some Saturdays we take 8-10 dogs to the Greensburg PetSmart from 10am-5pm for adoptions. We require an approved application that can be filled out at our facility or emailed to us from our website www.fayettefriendsofanimals.net. Our application process can take up to 3 business days to process. If you are approved we will call you to set up a pick up day and time. If your application has been approved and you have another dog at home we will require a meet and greet before finalizing the adoption. We will not do a meet and greet if you do not have an approved app in first, We try our best to match our dogs with the person or family that they are going home to. Please consider the breed, size and energy level in the dog that you are looking to adopt.
